King Panda
Once upon a time, there was a king.
His kingdom was perfect.
The king was named by his people King Panda, as he always wore a cloak with a smiling panda pin.
Everyone in his land was happy and healthy. No complaints. The ten years of his reign were the best ones one could wish to live in.
He didn't live in a castle, he was not rich. He didn't looked like a king at all, but for the people he was. His heart was the one of a true leader.
No one knew about his origins and his past, no one could care about it. It didn't matter. Everything was perfect. He just showed up one day, when the ruling family vanished and left everyone on despairBut one was the downside. A curse. Everyone in the reign who has reached the age thirty one, would die.
The elder people were safe, but the new generations were cursed.No one accused him at first, but more and more people started blaming him for the curse. An entire decade passed, and the only explanation was that.
King Panda, deep down, knew it was his fault, that's the price he had to pay for the best reign possible.
Since he never lied to his people, he took the responsibility.He asked the people wether they would like to live forever but in agony and despair or live enough to enjoy a peaceful existence in harmony with each other.Obviously the population was divided. They knew everything would return as it was with the old king. Wars and poverty.
Some wanted the king's death, some were ok with the curse and some just wanted another king.
They ended up exiling him. He was sent to live to the cold mountains.The curse indeed ended and everything fell apart after K. Panda's departure. But that was what they wanted. Their choice.
As for Panda, he vanished and only rumours spread after him.
No one ever knew why Panda carried that curse nor his mysterious past. No family was linked to him. The only thing he left was a diary with strange messages. He was suspected to be part of a secret cult.People would wear a panda mask with crossed eyes to remember him and his curse once every thirty one months.Panda is dead! Long life to King Panda!
